Job Summary:
The Information Specialist is responsible for managing and organizing information resources within the Library and Information Science department. They play a pivotal role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date information, ensuring its accessibility, and supporting effective information retrieval for students, faculty, and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement information management strategies to ensure efficient organization, storage, and retrieval of information resources.
2. Catalog and classify information resources using appropriate methodologies, ensuring accurate indexing and metadata tagging.
3. Monitor and maintain databases, electronic resources, and digital archives effectively.
4. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify information needs, recommend appropriate resources, and facilitate access to relevant information.
5. Conduct regular audits to ensure data integrity, consistency, and compliance with organizational standards and legal requirements.
6. Provide training and support to library users on information retrieval techniques, search strategies, and effective use of library resources.
7. Stay updated with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in information management to enhance service delivery.
8. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement information retrieval systems, including taxonomies and controlled vocabularies.
9. Assist in developing and maintaining policies and procedures related to information management.
10. Contribute to the development and implementation of information literacy programs to enhance users' research and critical thinking skills.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Library and Information Science, Information Management, or a related field.
2. Proven experience in information management, preferably in a library or educational setting.
3. Strong knowledge of information organization principles, metadata standards, and classification systems.
4. Proficiency in cataloging tools and techniques, such as AACR2, RDA, MARC, or Dublin Core.
5. Familiarity with library management systems, digital repository platforms, and integrated library systems.
6. Excellent understanding of information retrieval strategies and search methodologies.
7. Ability to analyze complex information needs and recommend appropriate resources.
8. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and maintenance.
9. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
10. Proactive approach to problem-solving and ability to work independently as well as in a team.
